I’m a film maker, and I would love to have the money and the resources Kevin Smith has had to shoot his films. With that said, I’m a fan of Kevin Smith’s. Even though he hasn’t made any 100million dollar films. Most of his films entertain, and the man never allows fame or bullshit to mess with his HEART and LOVE OF FILM MAKING.
Let’s face it. Many low-budget films are bad. The creative urge that pushed the filmmaker to start, and then complete the work is often weak or misguided. When this happens, the audience ends on the other side of the moon and the filmmaker either disappears or goes on to produce more bad films. Yet, that the creative urge is alive is a tribute to the filmmaker.
As far as I’m concerned most of Kevin’s Smith’s film have a basis in heart wether it’s Foul mouthed comedy, or a film about making porn it doesn’t matter, because Kevin could have sold out, but he didn’t. His films DON’T SUCK even though he’s not making 100million Dollar movies. Most people outside the independant film world would say KEVIN WHO???. But those of us in the independant film community see Kevin as some what of a hero, not only because he’s had success, but for the most part he’s made the movies he wants to. From “Clerk’s” to “Zack Miri Make a Porn” these film are uniquely Kevin Smith, and a film makers voice and style are tide into his films, and in Kevin Case he’s just trying to tell his stories, and have fun, even though sometimes film making can be crazy, and not always fun. His style and voice always ring through his movies. If Kevin ever does get a chance to make a blockbuster 100million dollar budget, I hope it has his Style and VOICE clearly through the whole movie.
